I Invested and was Rewarded, Contest Plugs, I Picked Up Some Coin, and Another Peek

  Hey again Buffet readers. I have a few things on the menu today so let's get to it.
 
  A couple of weeks ago while reading one of the many great blogs out there (I forget which one) a post directed me to another blog I hadn't known about and I found The Card Investor . I invested some time reading and was just in time to participate in his great card set give away. I, like most of us, love freebies so this was great. I was given these.

2008 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects

    This is great as it is a set I would never try to put together so it is awesome to get the whole thing in one shot.

  Here are the only Mets and Yankees in the set but I am glad to have the whole set. Thanks Sanders, you have a great blog and I'm glad to have found it.

  Next I have a few cards (and some coin) I scored at my LCS while picking up some other stuff. They were on the bottom shelf of a display case hiding in the corner.

1997 Pinnacle Mint Cal Ripken Jr, Mike Piazza, and Tony Gwynn.

  I have a couple of these but not these players and none of the coins. Three great players that I collect and all with their respective coins. 

 When I first saw these years ago I thought a card with a giant hole in it was silly looking but now with the coin in place I must say pretty cool.

    All the coin backs are the same.

   They actually resemble the players pretty well too so this is a pretty good score to me. I may have to try and find some more of these.

   There seems to be a bunch of contest going on around Blogoland lately and today is no different. First head on over to Community Gum for their latest of many contests, a shot at a box of 2010 Panini Century. You guess what they pulled and you can win. After that you can go to Colbey's spot Cardboard Collections and be rewarded for his getting extra Tebow RC's. He wanted one and got five so he's spreading the wealth. Also if you hurry (today's the last day) Cam of The Bullpen Cardboard has some junk wax era packs and if you can guess what's in them you can win a prize. That should keep you busy for a bit but when your done you can jump into another one of Too Many Granderson's Razor Letterman group breaks. I was in his last one and it was great. (Post of my loot coming in the next couple of days) 5 guaranteed letter patch autos is quite the score if you ask me. You won't be disappointed.

Trade With the Dimwit, Sneak Peak, and a Give Away Chance

    Hey all. It's been a few days since a card related post as thing are very busy around here at The Buffet. I am currently reorganizing my card/media room since it has gotten totally out of control. I have to get things in order before it completely devours me.
    I have been able to swing a few trades that I am really excited about and one of them arrived yesterday from Sam over at The Daily Dimwit. I don't have any witty banter today so I will just lay it out straight forward. Sam and I have developed kind of a trade synergy lately as we both have been getting cards that fit into each others collections on a regular basis so working out trades has been easy. Actually any trade with him is easy so if you have stuff he likes give it a whirl and you will not be disappointed.
   As usually is the case he had some Mets and Yankees that caught my eye and another great trade was on.

   First he piled in 19 Yankee Stadium Legacy cards.

     I can't imagine ever trying to complete the YSL insert set but it's a good way to get Yankees from all the different eras.

     Some cool 09 A Piece of History cards hit the spot next.

 I like how he included 2 cards for my New York collection, Woodstock and the Hall of Fame. Both of course are located in upstate NY and I have been to both to visit their hallowed grounds.



    Next is a bit of this and a bit of that.

     The black bordered Bo Jackson mini is the Gypsy Queen back and of coarse the Jeter is that gimmick card that made all kinds of noise back in 2007.



    Gold sweetness was on tap next.

    I have been on a bit of a Mantle kick lately so the gold /2010 is way cool and any David Wright I don't have is a score so I am smiling.



Now my favorites from a great package through and through.

    The Feliciano RC is my first Mets black /59 (it looks more silver though) from 2010 Topps. The Seaver SP rocks! The Joba blue framed sn'd 50/50 is the card that started it all and is sweet.

    In other news, The Cardboard Connection is holding another give away and this month it's a box of 2010 Triple Threads Football. All you have to do is sign up for their news letter and you are in. They have a great site over there too.  Tell them I sent you and I can win something also. I know this because last month Jonathan from RGB Cards won a box and because he told them I sent him, I won a $20 PayPal credit. Yea me!

Tomahawk Chopping Chops Me Some Sweet Cards

   Hello all. A little while back I was in a EEE group break over at Too Many Grandersons and met Derick during the live trading part of the festivities and we struck up a conversation on trading some stuff. It is always great to trade with a rival teams fan (Braves) since we both want to get rid of said rivals teams cards. Ironicly he had some players I collect and not Mets cards but that's fine too. He since posted some cards he got from some blasters he cracked and the Yankees looked real good to me so he sent along a great package of Yankess and Mets. I will feature just a few of the awesome Yankees he sent as they stole the show. (The Mets were great too)

First a few base.

   Just a few of many great cards. Bernie Williams is one of my favorite Yankees from the recent past and the (baby face) Pettite minor league card is fun.

  Then some shiny like cards popped up.

   These are the first Bowman Platinum cards I have gotten and while they are not chrome, the shine almost as much. Some pretty good players too I must say. I had to sneak in one David Wright Mets card so this was a good one to do it with.
   Next are the two cards I loved when he posted about them.

    The Jeter Chrome Chicle 011/999 (curl and all) looks great and I have always said how much I like the manu patches. This one doesn't disappoint, Jeter from the 96 World series.
   When I opened this package up I noticed the toploader with the manu patch was way to fat for it but it was full so what gives?
   Another card inside with it....

   A Whitey Ford 53 World Series manu patch, I love it! It's so cool since over the last couple of months I have been expanding my old school Yankees collection and even moved all my pre 1970 players to there own binder and Whitey Ford has been a favorite in that group for me. This patch design is great even though it looks like the Topps employee who glued it down must have been in a rush to go home or something. It still rocks regardless.

    I mentioned earlier how I met Derek at Dennis's of  Too Many Grandersons group break of  EEE. We are both also in his next break of 2008 Razor Letterman tomorrow and you can be also. Some New Additions in Red White, and Blue While Milestones Approach

   Hello all. Today I have a few new additions to the American flag cards collection to show off. The Bowman Chrome in the middle is my favorite of bunch and looks great in person. I wish the chromes would photograph better.

    These three come from the 1991 Pro Set Desert Storm set. Wow, 20 years old now.

  These cards complete page four and start page number five in the binder. Not bad for a collection I began only a few months ago.

   In other happenings around here at BA Benny's Baseball Card Buffet, some milestones are coming up. February 3rd is the one year anniversary  and 20,000 hits are approaching also. I don't know what will hit first (probably the anniversary) but it would be way cool if it was the same day. I will have to figure out some kind of fun to celebrate the occasions. 7 more followers will get me to the century mark as well.  I also am in the planning stages of hosting the first group break here and think it should be fun. It will be a lower priced adventure with 2 or 3 different boxes and a bunch of loose packs I have been stocking up for several months. I think the variety will make for a very interesting break.

A Quick E-Bay Score, Anybody Like the Redskins?

    Hey all. A quick hit today on an E-Bay score. I am a big Daniel Murphy fan and am sorry to see injuries take away his chance to make it with the Mets. With  his lack of skills in the outfield and the emergence of Ike Davis he has become an afterthought in the Mets plans. Hopefully next season he finds a spot and makes it back to the big club roster. The one positive for me is that you can find his cards much cheaper now then this time last year so I found this beauty for a song.

2008 Bowman Sign of the Times Auto

    The seller also had a great combined shipping deal but I didn't see any other cards I really wanted. I grabbed these two Devin Thomas autos on the cheap because I can't pass up a bargain on shipping and I figure maybe somebody may want to trade for them. He played for the Giants this past season after a stop in Carolina earlier mid season. He was with the Redskins in 08, 09 and 4 games in early 10. Check them out and make an offer folks.

  There's another big snow storm forecast for tonight here in NYC. (It has begun snowing as I write this post) I better be able to get to work tomorrow after I lost two days last time because the sanitation couldn't get there head out of their ass and plow my street for 3 days. See my rant HERE. I hope to report back with better results this time.

Card(s) Of The Day

    Hey all. Today I bring back the "Card of the Day" post. It's been a while and I found this while looking for something so I figured why not. This card of the day is actually 9 cards in one sheet so does that make it one big card?

Farmland Dairy's NY Mets

Darryl Strawberry, Howard Johnson, Sid Fernandez, Keith Hernandez, Dwight Gooden, Kevin Elster, Randy Meyers, Gary Carter, and Roger McDowell

   Nine Stars from the 88 team. Below are closer pictures of each row of cards. You can see the perforations where the cards are to be separated.

   The backs are standard fare with player info, 87 stats for each player along with a list of 87 highlights pertaining to the player as well. There are also 2 logos, a Mets Jr. logo and a Farmland Dairy logo.

   Here's a closer look at a couple of the backs.

  I picked a couple of these up at the "other" card shop I go to once in awhile when I am working in the area. I will keep one whole and separate the other to add the cards to the Mets player collections. I know that they also made these in 87 and 89 but have yet to see them.

   Check out The Pack Rip Cafe where I try to unearth some hidden treasures. Go see if I had any luck.
