Some more COMC Scores and An Interesting Non-Sports Tidbit

Hello all. Back with some more of the Check Out My Cards score. This group of cards are the NY Mets Sn'd portion of the purchase.

    First up, some David Wrights.

Five from the 2008 Moments and Milestones. Four /150 and a blue /10. I still can't figure out how they number these cards and how many are in the set but if it's a Wright sn'd, I want it.

Three more David Wrights. 08Unique red /1199, 08 Heroes green /499, and 07 Moments & Milestones /150. The Unique cards look great and I really love the Heroes parallels.

Next a couple of Hidalgo and an Escobar.
Richard Hidalgo 04 Leaf Limited /749, and 04 Topps Traded Gold /2004. Alex Escobar 99 Donruss /181. These look much better then the pictures show. I love the Escobar since the serial number is stamped in the same blue foil used on the front of the card and not the standard gold or silver.

Piazza, Gooden, and the team are next.
Mike Piazza 05 Fleer National Pastime /2004, Dwight Gooden 2002 Topps Super Teams /1986, Mets 2010 Topps gold /2010, Mets team 02 Topps gold. The Gooden has that refractor look on a cardboard based card.
There you have some Mets goodies with numbers stamped on them.

On a completely unrelated tangent, I got an e-mail from a family member with some pretty cool tidbits on where some sayings originated and I figure I will share some of them at the end of my next few posts. First up......................................
In George Washington's days, there were no cameras. One's image was either sculpted or painted. Some paintings of George Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs are 'limbs,' therefore painting them would cost the buyer more.. Hence the expression, 'Okay, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg.' (Artists know hands and arms are more difficult to paint)

Interesting stuff.

Don't forget to check out The Pack Rip Cafe for today's pack.

Some Contest Winnings, Some More COMC Scores, and Some Plugs

Hello all. Things have been super busy as of late here around The Buffet so I haven't had much time for posts as of late. I have been able to read and comment on some blogs with a computer at work (Shhh, don't tell anybody). I have a little bit of time before I do some prep work for the big feast we're serving up tomorrow so here are some cards I have acquired recently.
First are some football cards I won in a contest over at All About Cards involving random acts of kindness. The prize was 3 packs of football cards. 1 pack of 2010 Panini Threads Football Cards, 1 pack of 2010 Panini Rookies & Stars Football Cards, and 1 pack of 2010 Panini Epix Football Cards.. He did the pack breaks over on his blog so check them out here. All three releases look great and I feel like they all made improvements from last year.  Here are some of my favorites.

Three from the teams I collect, Jets, Saints, and Giants. Funny how they came one from each different pack.

The McNabb is the only insert I got, Johnson in cool throwback uni and during a snow storm, Mason is just a great veteran who has quietly had a hell of a career.

The Walker is a cool photo in front of the Chiefs bench, Carlson in some interesting color jersey, Gates has been a fantasy stud for me this season until he got hurt 2 games ago. I need him back for playoffs in a few weeks.

A fun contest with a nice prize.

Next I have some more cards from my last COMC purchase.

Some Mike Piazza cards I needed. I have to check but I think it's only the third Marlins Piazza I have.

Some random Mets. The Murphy is the Target retro thing. Anybody have any of the Ginter States New York for my NY cards collection?

A few Yankee Stadiums and a patriotic Bernie.

A few more for the Mantle pages. The two 2006 MMxxxx inserts (bottom left and middle) brings me to six. I only need #'s MM1997, 1998, 2000, and 2004 to complete the 10 card insert set. The chrome Trading Card History (bottom right) is one of my favorites too.
Next time up is the Sn'd card scores.

On a freebie note, Colbey over at Cardboard Collections  is giving away free cards, just help him out with a few bucks for shipping and some freebies will show up in your mailbox. Check it out here to see what teams he has left.

Go over here and see how to  vote for The Dimwit so he can win something, rule a small country, become a Idol contestant, or something he need help with. He's a cool dude so help him out.

We all know how much leftover turkey will be in the fridge after tomorrow so go here for an idea of what to make with it. She has a bunch of other great and healthy recipes there too.

The Pack Rip Cafe has some rack pack action today and all I will say is it's a hit so go on in and have a look.

On a different note, I know I have several trades out there working where I have to get back to some of you great traders. Like I said before, I have been crazy busy around here and at work so time has been limited. I thank you for your patience and I should (hopefully) have time this weekend to pull some cards and send you offers. For those who we have completed trades, I sent out some packages today so keep an eye on the mailbox.

That's all I got for now.

2006 Rookie of the Week Set Plus Some COMC Scores

Hello Buffet readers. I have seen some posts about the HTA 50 card set Topps is giving out each week via HTA shops and it brought back memories of a similar  promotion from 2006 where the had a "Rookie of the Week" give away. The same way they are doing it now, each week another card for the set was given out at card shops for a total of 25 weeks. I am fortunate to have the whole 25 card set. This set reminds me of the 2010 Cards Yo Momma Original Backs insert set. Here is the complete set in order.

Like this years Yo Momma st, this one is one of my favorites.

Next up is some cards I scored from Check Out My Cards dot com a few weeks back. I will break these up into a few posts shared with other stuff to mix it up a little.

3 of the 1995 Bazooka Red Hots I needed for the set. I only need one more, #RH22 Frank Thomas. I could also use an extra Thomas and Griffey for the player collections too.

Some additions to my new cards with American flags collection.

Some Mets and Yankees team cards.

A few more Yankees team cards.

There it is, some fun additions to the collection.

A couple of breaks and some contests.

Things are very busy here around the Buffet so posts have been thin lately. Thing are busy out in Blogoland too so here are a few plugs for some of the action.

Group break over at Nachos Grande. He's bustin up the following.
1998 Pinnacle Performers - 24 packs (8 cards per pack)
2000 Topps Stars - 24 packs (6 cards per pack)
2000 Topps Stadium Club Hobby - 24 packs (6 cards per pack)
2001 Topps HD - 20 packs (4 cards per pack)
2000 Fleer Focus - 24 packs (10 cards per pack)
There are still good spots left so check it out.
Another group break is going down tonight over at My Past Time……. I Love It!! The wicked one is busting 20 boxes of 80's and 90's classic wax. If you hurry you can still get in at less than $1 per box. It goes off at 10pm eastern time.

A contest is running over at The Other World so go on over and see what questions about him you can get right.

The Mojo side of The MojoBeard is running a guessing game with purple refractors so go ahead and pick a number.

A blog I just found out about is also running a contest. Henchmeister's Junk Blog is going 1990 Upper Deck and all you have to do is figure out what team is most prevalent in half his box.

There you have it, plenty of other spots to check out while the Buffet is tending to business on the busy home front.

Quick Post Card Of The Day (Big Tipper Edition)

Hello all. A quick post tonight as there in not a lot of spare time around here at The Buffet. My daughters Sweet 16 is this week and we are in full speed ahead trying to get every thing ready for the party.
I have a Card of the Day for you to enjoy. I hear he is a big tipper.

2008 Allen and Ginter Jeff Francoeur game used jersey.

Last week the Mets clubhouse manager Charlie Samuals was linked to mob gambling and his relationship with players has come into question. This story in the Daily News this week sheds some light on the situation including the info on Francoeur giving Samuals a $50,000 tip when he was traded to the Rangers this past season.

This card is up for trade.

Don't forget to check out The Pack Rip Cafe

NPN Scores and group break plugs.

Hey again all. Today I have a quick post on some NPN (No Purchase Necessary) cards I got in the mail over the last year or two. I have been pretty lucky in that I probably have gotten 10 or so free cards from the NPN programs each of the card companies have. That's where you mail in your address on an index card and they draw some of them for a free card. I believe they are always inserts or parallels as that's all I have ever gotten. Donruss/ Panini and Topps various divisions (A&G, Bowman, etc.) have been my most sucessful in quantity while I have only hit one Upper Deck NPN. Here are 3 that I have scored in the mail. Keep in mind that all three are up for trade as they don't really fit into my collections.

Manny Ramirez A&G Baseball Highlights from the 09 set. Nice looking insert.

Curtis Granderson Topps Chrome X-Fractor from the 09 set. I can always appreciate the shiny chromes.

This third one is my most recent and the first one I have scored from Upper Deck and they sure did well.

2010 Greats of the Game Basketball Mateen Cleaves auto (Michigan State).

A free auto card, not too shabby! I have not been shy about the fact that I am a Topps guy but Upper Deck sometimes surprises me with stuff like this. While I appreciate free cards from any company, this is the best score I have had so far. They even sent a nice little form letter with it.

Thanks to all the card companies that I have received NPN's from and I will be continuing to mail in those index cards.

Don't forget to check out the Pack Rip Cafe for the latest offering.

The Wicked One is hosting a 19 box for 19 bucks break over on His Pastime and Loving It blog. Sounds like a hell of a deal! Check it out.

Another great break is happening over at Cardboard Collections and Colbey never disappoints so head on over and tell him I sent you so I can get a little bonus from him.

2010 Topps Update Jumbo Box Break.

Hello all. Today I have a jumbo box of 2010 Topps Update to show as I put together the final parts of the 2010 collections.  As usual I go with the jumbo box since you should get most of the base set, more cards, more inserts and 3 hits compared to the standard hobby box.

The base cards are nice and follow the same design as series one and two so I won,t bother with any pictures as we have all seen the design before and I have plenty of pictures of the rest of the box. I did complete all 330 cards in the update series.

First up is the box topper, a rookie chrome refractor.

Mike Leake (Reds)
This card is up for trade

Next up is the Turkey Red inserts. I got ten of these (one per pack).

I am putting this set together so any help is appreciated.

The ever popular Cards Your Mother Threw Out inserts are next. I got ten of these (one per pack) as well as one original back.

I love this insert set so I am building this set but the original back Killabrew is up for trade.

The next group is the Legendary Lineage set. I got eight of these.
I am not chasing this set so the four on the left side are available. The four on the right are going into my player/team collections.

Gold parallels are next. I got ten of these (one per pack).

Too bad I am not a Red Sox collector. These are up for trade except for the Swisher and maybe the Strasburg. I am very disappointed in the black serial numbering on the Topps stuff this year and the updates are still black and even smaller then the series 1 and 2.

Tales of the Game get tagged with the title "More" added in this series. I got ten of these (one per pack).

I am not putting this set together so they are up for trade except the Ruth and Youngblood. Not cool Topps, 3 doubles in the same box.

More vintage designs with the Vintage Legends Collection.

Another set I love so I must build it. Topps once again missed with three doubles out of eight. The Hornsby and Foxx Doubles are up for trade.

Peak Performance cards were light as only four packs had one.
I am not trying for this set so these are available.

Attax code cards came one per pack too.

I am only keeping the Wright so all others are up for trade.

Million Card Giveaway came one per pack as well.
I am close to completing this set as there are only 30 different cards in all three series. I redeemed these codes and would say the lot I got was 50/50 as far as good cards and junk. Is anybody still checking this site?

Next up is a couple of odd cards.
I got these two SPs. The Getz is the Rookie Cup variation from his series 2 card. It is number 508, same as his series 2 card. The Mickey Mouse is one of ten All-Star game cards. I definitely want to build this ten card set as I like them very much.

Now for the hits!
Peak Performance Andre Ethier auto, Yadier Molina All-Star workout jersey, Billy Wagner Silk 42/50. These are all up for trade. Looking for cool Mets in return.

This next card ranks as one of the best pulls I ever had!

SWEET!!!!
David Wright Manufactured Bat Barrel Black Parallel 17/25

All I can say is wow! I know some people don't like the manu stuff but I do and this is a sweet bat barrel card. Sure I wish it was real but still way cool in it's own right.

It looks like I got an extra hit in the silk. Are silks considered hits?
Over all I am happy with my results although I did not get the #661 Strasburg so I have to find one to complete all of the base for 2010.

There you have it, my 2010 Topps Update jumbo box.

I have updated my sidebar link for 2010 needs to include the update inserts I need as well.

Check out the Pack Rip Cafe for a trip back to 1995.
