Video Fixed on Group Break

The video is fixed on the last group break post. Thanks to Fan Of Reds for letting me know.

Group Break Packs #6 & #7 plus Two More (UPDATED, Video Fixed!)

Sorry about the video mess up. Thanks to Fan Of Reds for the heads up!

Back for more free card goodness here on the Buffet. I was lazy today after working overtime so I went with a video. I picked a good group of packs to do so on. You'll see. Check it out.

All I will say is I was really surprised.
The standing page on the sidebar is updated to include these cards.

Let me know which you prefer, video or pictures and I will favor what the majority likes better.

Thanks for watching!

Group Break Packs #4 & #5 plus Bonus Pack

Hello again all. The last 2 teams are claimed so we have a full house here for the group break. I have set up a page on my sidebar to keep track of the action and I will update it as each pack is opened. On with the break!

Pack #4
Kerry Wood (Cubs)
Ramon Hernandez (Orioles)
Prince Fielder (Brewers)

Austin Kearns (Nationals)
Ben Broussard (Mariners)
Chris Carpenter (Cardinals)
Shawn Riggans RC (Rays)
Miguel Montero (Dimondbacks)
Rookie Sensations Scott Olsen (Marlins)
Crowning Achievement Mike Piazza (A's)**

As I said earlier about keeping certain players, Mike Piazza is one of my player collections so I will substitute another A's card (insert) for it.
Not a bad pack and the Piazza is a nice insert. He does look odd in an A's uniform though. Still no Mets and I have only gotten one Yankee way back in pack #1. Another Marlins insert, I think that makes 3.

Pack #5
Alex Gonzalez (Reds)
Jaun Pierre (Dodgers)
Brad Penny (Dodgers)

Tom Gordon (Phillies)
Ian Snell (Pirates)
Jeff Baker (Rockies)

Joaquin Arias RC (Rangers)
Troy Glaus RC (Blue Jays)

Rookie Sensations Ryan Zimmerman (Nationals)
Perfect 10 Roy Halladay (Blue Jays)

A bunch of good players in this one. I especially like the look of the Perfect 10 inserts. This is the better of the two packs but I still think #2 is just a tad better. No Mets or Yankees again. Looks like I may be giving almost all these cards away at this rate.

1993 Topps Series 2 Bonus Pack
Jeff Montgomery (Royals)
Bernie Williams (Yankees)
David Justice (Braves)
Denny Neagle (Pirates)
Ed Nunez (Rangers)

Chad Mottola (Reds) draft pick
Lou Whitaker (Tigers) GOLD
Checklist 2 of 6
Barry Bonds (Pirates)** Will be substituted
Chusk McElroy (Cubs)

Mike LaValliere (Pirates)
Mike Pagliarulo (Twins)
Cory Snyder (Giants)
Checklist 1 of 6
Finally a Met and Yankee for me. These are a fun change of pace from the Fleer and this first pack was OK. I am going to count the gold cards as inserts since they aren't really base but are a parallel.
SUBSTITUTES

I will add these to make up for the 2 I am keeping for my player collections.

There you have it. All but 3 teams have something and the pirates lead with 6 base while the Marlins lead inserts with 3. Don't forget the standings on my sidebar.

Packs #2 and #3 Of Free Break! Still Time To Get In! Last 2, A's and Rangers Are Left

Back with packs #2 and #3 in BA Benny's Buffet's free break. There is still time to jump in and guess the best pack (for me). Details here and the update of teams left here. Onto the packs!

PACK #2
#224 Jeff Francis (Rockies)
#156 Francisco Cordero (Brewers)
#180 Jered Weaver (Angels)

#40 Jorge Cantu (Rays)
#94 Jose Castillo (Pirates)
#358 Fred Lewis RC (Giants)

#336 Alexi Castilla RC (Twins)
Rookie Sensations #RS-JH  Jeremy Hermida (Marlins)

Rookie Sensations # RS-JJ Josh Johnson (Marlins)
Year In Review #YR-MO Justin Morneau (Twins)

A pretty good pack with an extra Rookie Sensation insert and the first of the Year In Review inserts. Twins and Marlins get the best of this one.

PACK #3
#255 Jose Contreras (White Sox)
#304 Bob Wickman (Braves)
#215 Ivan Rodriguez (Tigers)

#114 Eric Chavez (A's)
#7 Ryan Zimmerman (Nationals)
#400 Ryan Zimmerman (Nationals checklist)

#331 Ryan Sweeny RC (White Sox)
#349 Kevin Hooper RC (Tigers)

Rookie Sensations #RS-FL Francisco Liriano (Twins)
#182 Howie Kendrick DIE CUT (Angels)

This pack yielded the first die cut card. Basically they cut the white borders off and keep the upper right corner rounded like the pictures on the regular base. Aside from the die cut this pack was OK with another insert for the Twins.

I got shut out on these two packs with no Mets or Yankees. At this very early point I have to put pack #2 in the lead for best pack. The extra insert and quality of players edge it past pack #1 with my only card so far. (Wang)  I have only one card out of the 3 packs so far so I hope that ratio changes in a hurry. Where are all the Mets Cards!

Three more teams have been grabbed while I wrote this so 2 are left, the A's and Rangers.

The Buffet Is Busy With A Free Small Group Break. Still A Table Of 2 Teams Open. Update Here

Hey again Buffet readers. I am thrilled with the response to my little group break thing I have going here and am adding some more packs into the mix. I am adding 9 more packs of the 2007 Fleer bringing the total up to 19. I know we have all been guessing at the best pack so if you want to you can change your picks if you like. The prize for that is not a huge Babe Ruth auto or anything like that so we can all just have fun with it. I will toss in some extra cards if you do get it. I am still picking pack #5 but if you want to change feel free. The choices are #'s 1 thru 19 now and don't worry about duplicating someone else's pick. I also found some other goodies in the bargain box to add in.
5 packs of 1993 Topps series 1 (each pack has a gold card), 3 packs of 1999 Topps Chrome hobby, and 2 packs of 2000 Topps finest hobby. (1 each of series 1 and 2) I only just started this and I am already having a great time with it so don't be surprised if I add a few other packs along the way.

We do have 7 6 4 2 teams left so if you are not in yet jump on in and if you only picked 1 team you can grab a second too. 3 people picked second teams already taken so they can also grab one of the few that are left. I have e-mailed them so if you are one of them you should have gotten an e-mail. Grab the last few teams on the original post here. The teams still up for grabs are:

  • Padres

  • Nationals

  • D-Backs

  • A's

  • Tigers

  • Rangers
  • Royals
I will be doing the next 2 packs in just a little while so jump on board and stayed tuned.

10 Pack Free Group Break Join Now! 2007 Fleer Pack #1

Update - All slots are filled!

Hello Buffet readers. What I have here is a stack of 10 packs of 2007 Fleer retail. A local card shop by me (not my usual spot but a shop I check out once in a while for a goof) has a clearance box and I grabbed these for 50 cents each. (I love a good bargain) I will be opening one or two each day here on BA Benny's Baseball Card Buffet for your viewing pleasure. I may even do a pack on video if I get the ambition.  I will give away these cards (except Mets,Yankees, and a few players I collect that are in this set). All you need to do is comment on what team 2 teams you want (saves me some postage)  and guess which pack will be the best (for me that is). My guess is pack #5. I may add some more packs of different stuff to this little free group break if I get enough interest.

A quick description of this set:
400 base cards and 5 types of inserts. Rookie Sensations that highlight the top new faces from the 2006 season. These fall at least one per pack and are the most common. Perfect 10, depicting players who finished in the top 10 of major statistical categories in 2006, Crowning Achievement, celebrating players who broke records or reached milestones, Year in Review, shining the spotlight on 2006's memorable moments, and In The Zone. Also possible are Genuine Coverage game used cards or Autos on  Fresh Ink and  Fleer's old staple, Autographics.

I like the on average part of the "pull two rookie cards and one Rookie Sensation per pack". I guess they were afraid to guarantee it. Anyway on to pack #1.

#69 Ray Durham (Giants)
#311 Claudio Vargas (D-Backs)

#382 Lance Berkman (Astros Checklist)
#216 Magglio Ordonez (Tigers)

#127 Chien-Ming Wang (Yankees)
#87 Zack Duke (Pirates)

#347 Jose Diaz RC (Royals)
#350 Dennis Sarfate RC (Brewers)

#14 Roy Halladay (Blue Jays)
Rookie Sensations #RS-KJ Kenji Johjima (Mariners)

Here are a couple of the backs to see.

There you have it. A few nice ones like the JohJima, Halladay and Wang. I got one Yankee so the other nine are up for grabs. Post your comments to snag some free cards from 2 teams. Anyone who guesses the best pack may get a little something extra also. More than one person can guess the same pack since there are only 10 to choose from. Spread the word on your blogs too.

Ed Rolled Me Out A Nice Trade Package

Hello again all. A couple of weeks ago Ed over at Roll Out The Barrell had a nice box of 2008 UD Masterpieces he posted about and mentioned some Mets and Yankees framed cards he got. Like a lot of people out in Blogoland, Ed's fondness of New York teams ranks right up there with athlete's foot and sour milk so out of the kindness of my heart I offered to relieve him of the discomfort of having to look at said Mets and Yankees cards and told him I would fill the void with some Brew Crew cards. As usual he was happy to do so and rolled a package my way.

Chamberlain, Wright, and Matsui
These three were the source of his irritation from the Masterpieces box and he got on a roll in purging himself of some more of those nasty NY cards.
Mantle x2, Posada, and Wright
Some shiny cards reflecting the Mets and Yankees names into his eyes.

Santana x2, Martinez, and Delgado
More blue and orange that was infecting his collection.

Fernandez, Lyons, Walker, Strawberry, Magadan, and Teufel
Classic late 80's and early 90's tough guys from Queens NYC.

Cano, Niekros, Rivera, Williams, Winfield, and Matsui
Some Bronx bad boys from yesterday and today.

This is about half of the package but I won't torture all the non NY fans out there with the rest. Now anybody who travels about in Blogoland knows that there are many folks out there are not exactly enamored with the 2 New York baseball teams and that's nothing new. Here at BA Benny's Baseball Card Buffet I have a started a program where I will help anybody who wants to rid themselves of those ugly, nasty, repulsive, scary, objectionable, and plain old hideous Mets and Yankees cards from their homes never to be seen again. No questions will be asked and no animals will be harmed.

All joking aside, thanks for a great package Ed and I hope you enjoy the Brewers I sent out.

Thanks For Stopping In The Buffet!

A Class Act Rides Off Into A Seattle Sunset ~ Thank You Ken Griffey Jr.

As most of us have heard, Ken Griffey Jr. announced his retirement yesterday with little fanfare or spotlight. Seems like that's fitting considering he did all his talking on the field and kept a low profile unlike many of the media hungry, swelled ego athletes of today. He is a shoe in as a first ballot Hall Of Famer and I am sure when he hits that stage in Cooperstown NY he will display the same class he has for his 22 year career. Thank You Ken Griffey Jr.

This is a ceramic card made by R&N China Co. They made a series of these with several players including Ken Griffey Jr. and Mickey Mantle. It is an awesome replica of his 89 Topps Traded rookie card.
I hope to find some more of these.
